It’s only after you go to another concert that you realize how incredible the Taylor Swift fandom really is.
If you were blessed enough to secure a ticket to the 2023 US leg of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour, then you know it was truly an experience unlike any other. By some miracle (aka my cousin somehow made it through the Ticketmaster hell hole), I was given the opportunity to attend The Eras Tour in Atlanta, Georgia at the Mercedes Benz Stadium on April 28, 2023.
From picking an era of Talyor’s to represent through my outfit, to coordinating schedules with my group of cousins on when we could get together to create friendship bracelets, the preparation for this concert began 3 months in advance. While the Swifties get it, those who don’t live with her 237-song discography playing on repeat in their head might not entirely understand.
For many of us Taylor Swift is more than just a pop star, Swifties have been a part of her life for 17 years thus far. A commitment that’s lasted longer than most marriages. But how does she do it?
She’s the definition of a “girl’s girl” and while she lives this incredible life that none of her fans live, she continues to be attainable. Her music gives us a deep glimpse into her life experiences and it’s through her lyrics you realize that she really is “just like us.” Sometimes it’s hard to put your emotions and experiences into words, but Taylor can do it for us (with a super catchy chorus to top it off). Throughout her career she has brought Swifties along on her journey, in turn, making us just as invested in her life as she is. So when the Eras Tour was announced, it was a no brainer that we would help her make it amazing.
The artist is the main event at a concert, but it’s their fans who really set the scene in the moment. While I can only speak for the concert I attended, I know the sentiment extends to the rest of the tour when I say the energy and excitement that Swifties brought to each stadium is unmatched. And I know this because I’ve attended two concerts since The Eras Tour, and no shade to the artists (who I am a massive fan of), but it just wasn’t the same. There was not a single person at The Eras Tour who wasn’t enjoying themselves. Everyone was kind and friendly, fans became friends with each other and the environment was nothing but supportive. I can’t say the same for the other two concerts. Don’t get me wrong they were both incredibly fun, the crowd’s energy was so low compared with Taylor’s. People were excited without a doubt, but where was the singing along to every lyric? Where were the high-pitch screams of happiness before they walked onto the stage? Where was the joy and support for the openers? The answer… not really there. The reason? It’s because of the relationship that Taylor has developed with her fans over the years, a relationship no other artist has been able to develop, maybe since Michael Jackson.
This TikTok describes it perfectly LOL!
